May is upon us....

I've been a bad blogger! I get so busy with work and life, that I forget that I'm suppose to be blogging & tweeting!

Friday, April 30, 2010 9am – 4:30pm Mt. Sacs Plant Sale @ Descanso Gardens 1418 Descanso Dr., La Canada Flintridge. The Horticulture Department from Mt. SAC fills Magnolia Lawn with a wide range of indoor and outdoor varieties that may include palms, clivia, ficus, impatiens, ivy, parrot’s beak, perennials and assorted garden treasures. Free with Gardens admission.

FREE 8am - 11am Create a Butterfly Garden @ Hastings Branch Library 3325 E. Orange Grove Blvd., Pasadena. Bring your gardening tools, sun screen, hats and gloves and join in planting new native drought tolerant plants sure to attract Monarchs, Queens, Swallowtails, Painted Ladies, Buckeyes, Red Admirals, Suphurs, Whites, Gray Hairstreaks, Skippers and Azures! 8am - 10am Family Bird Walk @ LA County Arboretum 301 N. Baldwin Ave., Arcadia. Naturalist/Recreation Leader Ray Jillson will lead you on a 2 to 4 hour walk through the Arboretum in search feathered friends. Children are welcome but must be with an adult. The family bird walk is held on the first Saturday of each month. Meet in front of the rotunda at 8am and wear comfortable walking shoes, a hat and weather-appropriate clothing. 10am - 4pm Carnival in the Park @ Sierra Madre Nursery School, 611 E. Sierra Madre Blvd., Sierra Madre. Kids can enjoy pony rides, a petting zoo, arts and crafts, digging for buried treasure and lots of Carnival games at Sierra Madre Community Nursery School's Annual Carnival in the Park. Goodies for adults include a live plant booth, a handmade goods shop and a dessert booth, just in time for Mother's Day. Food and drinks will also be available for purchase. 12pm - 2pm 1st Annual "Big Hat Tea" @ Inland Valley Mocha Moms 7120 Golden Vale Dr., Riverside. Come with love in your heart and a hat on your head! The Inland Valley Mocha Moms want to see your biggest, boldest fedora, beret, bowler or Sunday-best hat at their first annual "Big Hat Tea." Spend the afternoon indulging in a special high-tea spread, speakers and shopping. The Mocha Moms promise that this is "not your grandmother's tea." Cost for the event is $20 per person. Proceeds will benefit sickle cell anemia.

FREE1pm - 6:30pm Cinco de Mayo Celebration @ Barnes Park Ampitheater 350 S. McPherrin Ave., Monterey Park. Celebrate Cinco de Mayo at this festival that includes Folklorico Dancers, Mariachis and other traditional Mexican music. Dora the Explorer will be making an appearance and will pose for photos with children. Authentic Mexican food, including carne asade tacos, nachos, taquitos, and pan dulce, will be available for sale from the Monterey Park/Morelia Sister City Association.

3pm - 5pm Family Day @ Pasadena Museum of California Art, 490 East Union St., Pasadena. Join the family fun with arts and crafts activities based on our current exhibitions at Pasadena Museum of California Art. All ages are welcome.

FREE 4pm - 8pm Family Night: Lineage Dance @ Kidspace Children's Museum, 480 N. Arroyo Blvd., Pasadena. Free admission for all guests to this 3-acre indoor/outdoor educational extravaganza! Explore the Digging Deeper Gallery, Interactive Gardens, Early Childhood Center and more. Regular admission is $9 peradult/child. During this month's Free Family Night, Lineage Dance Company will showcase contemporary and classic dance forms to visiting families. Dancers will hold workshops so children can express themselves through movement. If you love Anime, Manga or both then come on down to the library where each month teens meet to watch and discuss the latest in Anime and Manga. The Anime and Manga group meets on the first and third Fridays of the month.

FREE Children's Literature Day @ Mt. San Antonio College Theater, Student Life Center (Building 9C), 1100 N. Grand Ave., Walnut Bring the whole family to this FREE event designed to help families raise readers. Children's authors will be on hand all day to read from and sign copies of their books. 10am - 12pm Family Adventures @ LA County Arboretum 301 N. Baldwin Ave., Arcadia. Join your adventure guide at The Arboretum for a new and exciting nature adventure on the second Saturday of the month. May's theme is Exploring Tropical Plants. Family Adventures are FREE with admission to The Arboretum. Come early as space is limited to 25. Children of all ages are welcome. Family adventures will go on rain or shine so dress appropriately. This FREE clinic is open to all Southern California music students in elementary, high school and college levels to support the return of jazz education. An all-star assemblage of talented jazz musicians –vocalist Lalah Hathaway, saxophonist Louis Van Taylor, pianist Donn Wyatt, drummer Stephen Foster, trumpeter and musical director Noland Shaheed, along with other special guests – will share their talents.
